Fernando Alonso has competed in premium racing championships for over two decades. When he wasn’t on the F1 grid, the Spaniard could be found racing elsewhere, most notably the Indianapolis 500. He has won the required F1 Monaco GP twice in 2006 and 2007 and the 24 Hours of Le Mans twice as well, leaving the Indy 500 as the last remaining jewel of his prestigious motorsport Triple Crown.
And that was the case in 2019 when he partnered with McLaren to enter the Indy 500 race for the second time in his career. But things didn’t pan out any better than 2017—Alonso’s first attempt—as Alonso would’ve wanted them to.
Alonso failed to qualify for the race on his second attempt and was caught on camera as American driver Kyle Kaiser defeated him by just 0.019 mph. The disqualification meant an extended wait for Alonso, who had taken a break from Formula 1 to prepare for the Indy 500. It also brought criticism upon F1, which is claimed and widely regarded as the best racing competition in the world.

Here’s how IndyCar fans reacted:
Can’t be possible. F1 drivers are the best in the world, even their worst driver can beat the best in IndyCar & NASCAR. SAYS NO ONE except F1

Indycar is way better racing than f1. In f1 there's only a handful of cars that can actually win

Knocked out by a part time team? With Alonso having the backing of an F1 team? It's almost like F1 teams don't really understand the complexity of driving an IndyCar…

Typical F1 L's

Here before the F1 fans say “all they do is turn left” when Indycar has more Street/Road courses than ovals.

And F1 has the nerve to suggest it’s higher quality racing.

I think many would agree Indy 500 Qualifying is the pinnacle of qualifying in Motorsports…..

The elitists are NOT happy with this one. I wanna see Toto Wolff have a meltdown trying to qualify for the Indy 500. Make it a whole episode of DTS so the Netflix people can see why F1 isn’t as high and mighty as they think they are

Alonso’s attempt at winning the race in 2017 was a great one, as he lead the race in the late stages until he had an engine failure. But the following attempts didn’t work out. Back in F1, he now has different things to focus on, but this is something that will be on his mind for a long time.
