The sport of Formula 1 is quickly growing into a battlefield for financial moguls. Naturally, the teams and other stakeholders will reap the benefit of this. Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds, along with a consortium of investors, has purchased a 24% stake in the Alpine F1 team. The Enstone-based team will be thanking their lucky stars as they became the fiscal eye-candy for a mammoth investment opportunity. However, there always is more to things than meets the eye.
The deal has been valued at an eye-watering $218,000,000 (€200 million). But as good as it sounds for the French team, many have been speculating a sinister prelude. There have been doubts raised on this deal by an F1 veteran. Although, with Alpine CEO officially confirming the news with his expectations, these speculations seem to be nullified.

Ex-F1 team boss, Eddie Jordan has publicly slammed the deal. He went on to insinuate, “First of all, I won’t use the word fake news, but I mean, there’s absolutely no way from an accounting point of view – the financial model doesn’t stack up. It’s preposterous. It’s ridiculous,” per the Mirror UK. Jordan also slammed the team for not commenting on the deal.

However, now, Alpine CEO, Laurent Rossi has finally broken his silence. The Leader quoted Rossi as explaining, “This association is an important step to enhance our performance at all levels. First, Otro Capital, RedBird Capital Partners and Maximum Effort Investments, as international players with strong track record in the sports industry, will bring their recognized expertise to boost our media and marketing strategy, essential to support our sporting performance over the long term.”
“Second, the incremental revenue generated will in turn be reinvested in the team, in order to further accelerate our Mountain Climber plan, aimed at catching up with top teams in terms of state-of-the-art facilities and equipment.”
All in all, Ryan Reynolds venturing in F1 will be giving several marketing opportunities naturally. Fans are already getting excited about his paddock appearances soon possibly with his wife Blake Lively. Although, With Reynolds’ focus now on F1, where does that leave his beloved Wrexham?

Formula 1 isn’t a day job. At this point, we don’t really know how hands-on the Canadian actor will want to be with Alpine. Be that as it may, now that he’s dipped his toe in this sport, other priorities may have to take the backseat.

On the Fearless in Devotion podcast, Reynolds was quoted as saying, “Everything we’ve done since we’ve come in is to ensure no matter who comes in – and hopefully it’s us for the rest of our lives – we are building a sustainable business. Whatever that might mean in the future, who’s to say?”
