Mick Schumacher’s step-up to Formula 1 in 2021 from junior categories was seen as a well-deserved promotion. With the Schumacher name once bracing the Formula 1 grid, it was exciting to see what the German rookie could do. However, being stuck with uncompetitive machinery at Haas and running at the back of the grid didn’t exactly show his caliber.

Fast forward to 2022 and Mick had a lot to prove. With a new teammate in the form of Kevin Magnussen, a competitive VF-22, and the ability to score points every weekend, the pressure on Schumacher has increased compared to last year.
However, Mick has found the going to be tough this season. He hasn’t been able to score a single point until now and two horrific crashes have left his team, Haas, with a hefty bill. In an interview with Motorsport.com, Haas team boss Guenther Steiner got candid about the German’s pointless streak.
Guenther Steiner comments on Mick Schumacher’s pointless run
Kevin Magnussen’s performance has shown that the Haas VF-22 has a good pace. His incredible comeback in Bahrain and finishing P5 behind the Mercedes made a statement of sorts. Mick Schumacher, on the other hand, has not been able to maximize the potential of the car yet.
“Mick’s points are missing from the team, but also to him,” Steiner said. “In Formula 1 there is no hiding, the only thing that matters are the results and Mick also knows it very well.”
“He is aware of the expectations that exist, because if you have a teammate who grinds points you have to do it too, and if you don’t it becomes hard.” (translated to English via Google)

Guenther’s comments show a harsh reality that Mick Schumacher is facing right now. A pointless finish in most races, a horrific crash in Saudi Arabia during qualifying, and another one in Monaco is not been the way Mick would have wanted his season to go. His crash in Jeddah cost the team around $1 million, and the same could be applied to his Monaco one as well.
Ralf Schumacher comments on Mick’s crash
Mick’s uncle, Ralf Schumacher, insists that his nephew had a “weekend to forget” in Monaco. Speaking to Sky Germany, Ralf agreed with some of Guenther’s earlier comments.

“The failure in the race was his fault,” the former Formula 1 driver said. “Others drove past this point without any problems, but not him.”
“He got wet and that’s a mistake you can’t afford to make. This is punished mercilessly, as you have seen. Not only is the whole race ruined, but a badly damaged car also has budgetary consequences for the team.” (translated to English via Google)
