The Netflix series Drive to Survive has given fans some useful insights into how the Formula One world operates. It shows some interactions that wouldn’t have been caught if it wasn’t for the Netflix crew. One such incident was between Mercedes boss Toto Wolff and race director Michael Masi.

As the Mercedes boss was busy with his gym session, he was greeted by the race director himself. The two had a fun interaction regarding how much teams complain during an F1 race weekend.

In 2021, the F1 community got to see how teams interacted with the FIA, particularly the race director. In the third season of Drive to Survive, Wolff banters with Masi about talking to him on the intercom during the upcoming Grand Prix weekend.

Wolff points to Masi while being filmed by the Netflix crew. He said, “That’s the race director, by the way. He’s the one where everyone complains too,” Masi didn’t take long to respond and said, “Exactly. Including you.”

Wolff laughed and replied, “Wait tomorrow, I’ll be on the intercom with you.”

Wolff came on the radio and said to Masi, “No Michael, no Michael that was so not right.” In a few seconds, Wolff was devasted and said, “Michael, what was that?”

It wasn’t done just yet, as Wolff demanded that he reinstate the lap. Masi responded, “Toto It’s called a motor race okay,” Wolff was stunned by his answer and asked him to repeat, to which Masi said, “We went car racing.”
