Lewis Hamilton’s contract speculations have gone wild this year. It was recently suggested that Lewis Hamilton asked for a 10-year deal in 2+8 format. The 8-year part was a Brand Ambassador deal for which Hamilton was supposedly asking $25,000,000 a year. Nevertheless, Lewis Hamilton seems to have agreed to a deal with Mercedes as the Briton ignored F1 Champ’s warning following the Ferrari rejection.
John Elkann and Frederic Vasseur were reported to contact Lewis Hamilton for a possible Ferrari future. However, it’s believed that Hamilton rejected the offer as the Briton wanted to stay loyal to the team that won him 6 championships. Mika Hakkinen then warned Lewis Hamilton about keeping his emotions aside while thinking about a future contract and deciding based on which team will be able to provide him with a better car.
#F1: Lawrence Barreto on Lewis Hamilton’s contract: “Neither Toto Wolff nor Hamilton appear stressed by the amount of time it is taking to get a new deal over the line. They’ve both said that the key terms – including money and length of the arrangement – have been agreed.”

As per the recent speculations that have come out, it is believed that Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes are almost there in terms of Lewis Hamilton’s contract. It’s advised that all the major details of the contract have been finalized. This included the duration as well the financial side of things. Only the finer things in the contract are left to be sorted out.
According to @fiagirly’s tweet, Lawrence Barretto wrote in his feature piece for Formula1.com, “Neither Toto Wolff nor Hamilton appear stressed by the amount of time it is taking to get a new deal over the line. They’ve both said that the key terms – including money and length of the arrangement – have been agreed. It’s just, as Wolff puts it, ‘trivial things that need to be cleaned up’ in the contract before it all gets signed off.”
Staying with Mercedes does seem like the right thing. As we wait for the official confirmation and the finer details of the contract to be sorted, even a senior F1 Journalist suggested that Hamilton wouldn’t move to Ferrari.

Lewis Hamilton’s current Mercedes contract is worth $35M a year. Michael Schmidt suggested that Lewis Hamilton wouldn’t move to Ferrari even if the Italian stable offered double of $35M. This is because the Briton understands the problems at Ferrari as a move would only make things worse for him.
According to motorsport.nextgen-auto.com, Michael Schmidt said, “I also think Hamilton is quite intelligent. He knows very well that even if they pay double in Maranello, things will not get better there: Ferrari is not ahead of Mercedes. And every problem at Mercedes would multiply at Ferrari because it is even more in the spotlight.”
