The opening scene of Netflix’s acclaimed Drive to Survive’s Season 5 was nothing short of a cinematic masterpiece. That being said, a lot of what was to unfold for the two protagonists wasn’t that much pleasant. For Mattia Binotto, his tumultuous stint with Ferrari was about to come to an acrimonious end. And Guenther Steiner‘s troubles with Haas would only amplify with Mick Schumacher.

But keeping that aside, there was one more point of contention for both the men during that scenic drive. Steiner came onto ESPN F1’s Podcast to share what it was like behind the scene to be filmed by Netflix as Binotto took the wheels of a classic Italian family car.

No matter how the Italian’s stint went with the Scuderia, he did a very good job with getting the team back to winning ways. That’s the management side done. But is Binotto as proficient behind the wheel of a car, too?

During ESPN F1’s Unlapped Podcast, Steiner was asked, “Is he a good driver?” while referring to Binotto. He replied, “I don’t know! My confidence level was not very high. I was like, “Dude, do you think you know what you’re doing with this Fiat?” He’s used to drive with this big Alfa Romeo, you know.”

“The Fiat is a little bit of a different thing. You cannot go the same speed. I was like if we crash with this thing, there’s not a lot let of us to you know.”

When it was announced that Binotto would be leaving Ferrari at the end of 2022, the Italian engineer left a team he had dedicated almost his whole adult life to. Naturally, people were skeptical about his next move. But Guenther Steiner isn’t too worried.
