In the hyper-fast world of F1, even the lightest of contacts between two cars can prove detrimental. On Lap 1 of the Spanish GP, Lewis Hamilton had an unfortunate incident with Lando Norris. But lady luck smiled on him as his car remained unscathed. It was Norris’ car that suffered the ill effects of the collision.

At Turn 2 of Lap 1, Norris’ McLaren found itself with a broken front wing after colliding with the back of Hamilton’s car. What should have been a dream situation for Norris turned out to be a nightmare.

Lewis Hamilton’s advice for Lando Norris

It was a pleasant surprise for F1 fans and for Norris himself as he finished at P3 in Qualifying. But it didn’t take long for him to be taken out of contention for a podium. And it was none other than his fellow Briton, Hamilton, that played an unintentional part in doing so.

The accident caused Norris to finish the race at P17 and be lapped. While Hamilton secured his 2nd podium of the season and Mercedes finished 2-3. Norris just brushed it off, calling it an “unlucky” accident. In a post-race interview, when asked about the incident, Hamilton said, “I think it was a shame for Lando because he did such an amazing job yesterday. It’s great to see McLaren up there on the second row.”

He also went on to say, I think if he was just a little more patient today, he would have had probably a better result, but we live and we learn.” ‘Live and Learn’ is exactly what Lando and McLaren need to do in order to make quick changes in time for the next race. While Hamilton already seems to have learned what the car needs as he inches closer to P3 in the Drivers’ Championship.

It was a fairytale race for Sir Lewis Hamilton as he started 4th on the grid and finished 2nd. Russell joined in on the celebrations too as he finished P3, right behind Hamilton. Mercedes turned back time as they looked fierce enough to take on the frontrunners.

Before the Spanish GP, Hamilton was on 69 points, trailing Fernando Alonso, at 93, by 24 points. After a stellar performance from him at Barcelona, he has now reduced the gap to 12 points, and it is game on for Mercedes.
