Kimi Raikkonen is known as ‘The Iceman’ in the Formula 1 community. And this is for a reason. The Fin has a cooler than ice personality which is apparent in his driving style, his behavior, and his way of life. But if there ever could’ve been an exception for Raikkonen to reveal what’s below the cool exterior, it came at a fitting time – his farewell.
The Alfa Romeo driver is bidding goodbye to F1 after a career that has spanned over 20 years and two separate stints. Now, with two races to go, his team threw a farewell party for the legend. And Raikkonen put up a post on his Instagram account in which he revealed the tender side of his personality.
This is special because an act of a public display of emotions isn’t a usual thing in the life and times of Kimi Raikkonen.

The career of a modern legend, Kimi Raikkonen
In his F1 career, Raikkonen won 21 races and one world championship title. He’s one of the five drivers to have featured on over 100 podiums.
Raikkonen started his career in a Sauber-Petronas but quickly made his way to McLaren after a year in 2002. At McLaren, Raikkonen finished second in 2003 and 2005.
But it was after his move to Ferrari that the Finnish driver came into his own. He won his first and only title by one point in 2007. And, in 2009, Raikkonen took a break from F1.
When Raikkonen returned to F1 in 2012 with the Lotus team, he took no time in showing that ice doesn’t rust. He finished third in the championship in 2012 and took two wins in his two years at Lotus.
In 2013, Ferrari announced the second coming of Raikkonen. But his only and last victory of his career came in 2018 at the US Grand Prix. He finished third again in 2018, his last season at Ferrari.

From 2019 onwards, Raikkonen signed for Sauber/Alfa Romeo, where he will now finish his career.
It’s true that almost everyone associated with F1 in any capacity will know who Kimi Raikkonen is. And it’s not just that; it’s the respect he has earned for being true to who he is regardless of success and failure.

So, when you add in his unique sense of humor, his unique personality, and his unique style, it’s fair to say that everyone will miss Kimi. That there will never be another Iceman.
