With a damp track in qualifying on Friday afternoon (it’s a Sprint weekend), Lewis was on the pace, pulling out good lap times in Q1 and Q2. However, a red flag was caused by his teammate Russell in Q3. This denied Lewis a chance to set another lap time and get the pole.

After the red flag, Hamilton went on an out-lap on Intermediate tires as it was raining. Upon being asked whether he was trying to get a miraculous pole position, he said, “I just went out to see what the conditions were like. But obviously, it was properly wet. So you know… It’s motor racing.”

Pressed on whether it was thrilling to work with the team in such a qualifying session, Lewis replied, “No. Not really. It was difficult to see the conditions. It was difficult to see the raindrops and it was so dark. And I was the last car out. I think I got the earliest part of the rain. Probably lost too much [tire] temperature in the pitlane as well.”

Moreover, the Briton congratulated Kevin Magnussen on his first pole in F1. He concluded, “George did a great job [with his P3] and Congratulations to Kevin!”

For the first time in their history, Haas will line up at the front on the field ahead of all cars. However, can they hold on to it for the Grand Prix? Because besides the Danish driver, we got Max Verstappen starting in P2.

Given the fact that the Dutchman doesn’t care about where he starts the race on the grid, it would be difficult for K-Mag to keep the double-world champion behind him. Verstappen has got some amazing wins this season from P10 in Hungary and P14 in Belgium.

While Hamilton is itching to maintain his ‘a win every season’ streak, he will have to work hard for it. Lewis will start the Sprint from P8 and will look to repeat his 2021 heroics in Brazil.
