Rosberg explained that, back in the day, his rivalry with Hamilton was common knowledge at the team. It left him feeling ‘isolated’ and troubled. He even called out Mercedes for having an obvious divide, something he believes is non-existent in the Silver Arrows’ competitor: Red Bull.
Looking back at his time with the team, he told La Gazzetta Dello Sport, “The whole team had to maintain a neutral attitude between Lewis and I. There was a strange atmosphere within the team because it was clear that there was rivalry within our own garage.”
“As a result, there was a spirit within the team without balance – and that made it difficult to get closer together. I was in isolation at the most important point of my career,” he continued.
Further addressing the differences between his journey and that of Max Verstappen, who he credits to be immensely talented, the 2016 world champion concluded, “It should be easier for Verstappen – because he is seen as the number one driver by everyone. There is a calmer atmosphere at Red Bull.”
Despite talking about the ‘easier’ atmosphere that Max Verstappen has at Red Bull, Nico credits the Dutchman for his driving skills.

Nico shared, “Verstappen has blown my mind this year. He [had] a bad start to the season and Ferrari was superior at the time. He then went on to have a historic season with a [record-breaking] total of 15 victories, with relatively few pole positions, often winning by moving forward.”
As the Dutchman has won two world titles and bagged more victories than the legendary Fernando Alonso, at almost half his age, Nico praised him, saying, “He will always be among the best five drivers.” [Translated from Google.]
