The Legacy of Daniel Ricciardo lives on! He joined McLaren in 2021 with hopes of fighting for race wins. The 2021 Monza win was the only highlight in an otherwise unsuccessful partnership. Naturally, the next step was to leave the team after his 2-year contract was terminated in 2022. Now, he looks pretty happy being a Reserve driver for Red Bull. But looking at McLaren’s celebrations after a podium for Lando Norris, it is safe to say that Ricciardo has left his mark on the Woking-based team.
McLaren has found their mojo back after a good Austrian GP and an even better British GP. Their performance in Qualifying at Silverstone was a shocker for everybody. Norris finished P2 and what was more impressive was rookie Oscar Piastri getting P3. And their race pace turned out to be as good as qualifying, if not better. Norris held P2, finishing ahead of Lewis Hamilton but Piastri slipped to P4. Nonetheless, it was their best result of the season and Piastri’s best finish in F1.

The podium celebrations were a beauty, with Norris doing his impressively classic Champagne spray. And in the evening, on the main stage, with all the fans surrounding them, there had to be more celebrations. This time around, it was Norris who channeled his inner Daniel Ricciardo and urged his Australian teammate to do the iconic ‘Shoey’. After a bit of hesitation, Piastri drank some champagne out of the shoe handed over by Norris. And then Norris followed him, as the crowd went wild.
When McLaren uploaded the video of the drivers doing the ‘Shoey’, fans got very happy and emotional watching Ricciardo’s traditions being carried on.
Orange Army Is Ecstatic as Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri Continue Daniel Ricciardo’s Legacy
Twitteratis were overjoyed seeing the McLaren carrying on with the Honey Badger’s tradition. At least most of them were. Though Piastri looked a bit disgusted with the celebration, at least Norris looked happy after the victory celebration. They might not have won the race. But after completely changing the direction that their season started in, it might mean more than an easy victory. Let us look at how the ‘Shoey’ celebration was received by the fans on social media:

Though no one knows whose shoe they drank out of, we don’t think they even care. They made a commanding statement at Silverstone with their MCL60s. And McLaren is now fit to fight with the frontrunners. Do you think Danny Ric regrets his decision to leave?
