Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes were in pole position to win the Dutch Grand Prix. However, a late Virtual Safety Car caused by Yuki Tsunoda’s retirement meant that Max Verstappen got a free pit stop, effectively cutting off Mercedes’ advantage. After the Dutch Lion won his home Grand Prix, a lot of conspiracy theories started emerging, stating the AlphaTauri driver helped Max to win the race. Now, the Japanese driver has hit back at these theorists.

Infuriated by the backlash online, Tsunoda said, “First, I don’t want to know and don’t care. I want to ask how does your brain create… how your brain looks like, scan you in an MRI and see what’s wrong because it’s funny how they create the story. It’s as simple as that.”

He then spelled out why this wouldn’t be a scenario- everyone has their own goals in mind.

“Red Bull Racing and Scuderia AlphaTauri are completely different teams, it’s not as complete[ly separate] as other teams but it’s a different name, we’re in Italy, they are in the UK, we perform in a different field.”

Yuki found it ‘funny’ that such conspiracy theories were making rounds, and gave clarification on why he had to retire.

However, Max Verstappen did not take it seriously and labeled the whole incident as ‘silly’. “It’s just about the silly people who comment like that and what social media allows in general. It’s not only Formula 1. it shouldn’t happen, more to be done about that,” the Dutchman said.

The Red Bull driver will be looking to add to his 4 wins on the trot at Monza. He will also be keeping a keen eye on Vettel’s record of most race wins in a single season.
