Max Verstappen scored 19 important points at the Bahrain Grand Prix. He finished P2 as Lewis Hamilton kept him at bay, finishing as the race winner. A late retirement from Sergio Perez allowed Alex Albon to claim his second podium of the season.
Red Bull has both their drivers on the podium after a really long time. The drivers were asked some questions at the post-race press conference. Max Verstappen was questioned about his pace during the race and his racing strategy.
Verstappen admitted that the pace was not bad. However, he criticized the strategy during the race. He said, “I think we were trying to keep the pressure on, y’know, but I think we didn’t do a good job with the strategy today. We had the tyres to be more aggressive and we didn’t do it.”

Max Verstappen lost out because of a slow pit stop
During the first pit stop, Lewis Hamilton pulled in Verstappen. He believes that it should have been the other way around. He had the hard tires on and gained on Hamilton. However, a slow pit stop really hurt his chances of taking on Lewis Hamilton.
He said, “of course then my second stop wasn’t good. I don’t know exactly what happened there but we’ll look into that – so then you are even further behind but we were always like four seconds behind and with whatever we did wrong today, that’s just very costly.”

Verstappen had a third pit stop to try to go for the fastest lap. He did manage that extra championship point. However, he said, “basically after the red flag and the Safety Car the three-stop was a no-go and we still did it, so I don’t really get the point of that.”
