Over the years, F1 has raced in some breathtaking locations and stunning circuits. Amidst this, some individuals have expressed their displeasure over the tracks that make the cut into the calendar.

Following this issue, the most recent person to comment is none other than Red Bull driver, Max Verstappen.

The 2021 world champion spilled the beans on what he thinks about the selection of circuits over the years.

Verstappen on current circuits

The last few seasons have seen some major changes to the calendar. Recently, reports have suggested that Spa Franchochamps is also set to be discontinued from 2023 onwards. Reigning world champion Max Verstappen opposed the idea of dropping Spa and expressed his distaste over the new circuits making it onto the calendar.

Speaking to the Telegraaf about the situation regarding Spa and the older circuits, Verstappen said, “.. the access roads and things like that are not ideal there, but in the end you have to keep passion for the circuits as a sport.

Moreover, he shared his views on the current calendar, “Only new tracks and street circuits… I don’t find that very interesting myself.”

Max’s start to 2022

The Dutchman has started the 2022 season in fine form. He enjoyed a great pre-testing in Barcelona with no major hiccups. Confidence boosting testing in Bahrain followed, but his season opener in Bahrain was foiled by technical issues. However, redemption came in the next race in Jeddah, clinching the win from Charles Leclerc in the dying stages of the race.

So far this season Max and Red Bull are the only challengers to Ferrari’s dominance. Verstappen currently sits third in the driver’s standings behind the Ferrari duo of Leclerc and Sainz. He will be hoping to continue his run of fine performances in the next race in Australia.
