Charles Leclerc has started the season with a bang. A victory in Bahrain, followed by a second-place finish in Saudi Arabia and a pole in qualifying ahead of the Australian Grand Prix, is like a dream come true for the devoted Ferrari fans. Meanwhile, his teammate Carlos Sainz has also endured a solid season so far, with 2 podium finishes as Ferrari is back dominating the grid.


Meanwhile, off the track, the two share a very good relationship. Sainz is well known for his cheeky pranks and hysterical moments with former McLaren teammate Lando Norris. And he has continued that with his new teammate, Leclerc. Ferrari’s atmosphere is beaming with positivity and confidence as they hope to end their championship drought.

Aside from the on-track performance, the off-track environment and the relationship the drivers share also play a crucial role in a team’s success. Ahead of the Australian Grand Prix, Leclerc and Sainz shared a hilarious moment while answering questions from the fans.

 

“How are you so beautiful”? A fan popped a question to Leclerc. The Monegasque replied he inherited it possibly from his parents and has done nothing extra. He added, “I don’t know, I don’t do anything special.”

However, Sainz stopped him and jokingly commented that Charles indeed looks after him very well. The Spaniard said, “He does, he does. He puts some extra hours in the bathroom in the morning, the hair,” and Leclerc immediately conveyed, “Alright, you got the answer.” The bromance is certainly evident at Ferrari as they look to carry their momentum to Sunday’s race.

Leclerc held off Max Verstappen comfortably as he took pole in qualifying. It’s Ferrari’s first pole in Australia since Kimi Raikkonen bagged P1 in 2007. They will hope for a strong race but will be aware of the threat from the 2 charging Red Bulls.

On the other hand, Sainz endured a frustrating session as he ended up in P9. Luck was not on his side as he matched Leclerc in his flying lap only for the session to be red-flagged when Fernando Alonso crashed into the barriers. The 27-year-old was visibly disappointed and showed his frustration on the radio and also during the post-race interview.

When he eventually got his 1 shot to take the front row, the pressure got to him as he struggled to make an impact. After the session, he stated, “I couldn’t prepare the tyres. I couldn’t warm up the tyres, everything was rushed and I had to do the lap with freezing tyres. It was a horrible lap.”

Leclerc and Sainz endured very different fortunes on Saturday. Now, can Ferrari extend their lead in Australia? It remains to be seen.
