Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc didn’t get the results that they wanted at the Spanish Grand Prix. Being Sainz’s home race, many fans believed he would fight for the victory in Barcelona but sadly it was a P6 finish for the Spaniard. His teammate Leclerc finished ahead of him as the two were battling for the lead towards the end. While Sainz was all for making his teammate win the Monaco home race, the feeling was not met by Leclerc.

As the team let the two drivers battle it out, Charles Leclerc took the lead. However, he was not happy with the race as he had to fight against his teammate. This led to the Monegasque expressing his feelings publically which was then tied back to Sainz. So when the mic was directed to Sainz, he shared his opinion on what happened during the race. Sainz had a straight idea of what he could accomplish in the race, however, that did not work out for the Spaniard. Let us see what he had to say about this.

When news reached Carlos Sainz’s ear that his teammate was not happy with his driving during the race, the Spaniard said, “Leclerc wasn’t happy with me? For me it was clear, we had a new soft and we had to attack.” While it’s obvious that the driver with the fresher tires will be in a better position to fight for higher positions, the two drivers decided to fight it out on track.

The teammates not only lost time while battling each other, there was a slight contact between the two. Sainz moved on to talk about the beginning of the race and that’s where he explained that he doesn’t want to be behind his teammate. He added, “I don’t what happened to him in the first lap, I couldn’t stay behind him all my life. I don’t know what he’s complaining about this time”

Being a home race, Sainz would have loved to be on the podium, if not winning the race. At one point there were chances for him to attack Mercedes with fresher tires, but that did not pan out according to plan. In the end, Carlos Sainz believes that whatever happened on track was a part of racing and there shouldn’t have been any complaints.

The Spanish Grand Prix set Charles Leclerc a position in the driver’s championship. So let’s see where he stands after the Barcelona race.

Ferrari is struggling due to the lack of good points in the last two races. After the win at Monaco, it’s been a difficult ride for the Scuderia. Scoring no points in Canada with a double DNF and not being on the podium in Spain set the team back quite a few points. As Lando Norris came P2 in the race, the 18 points that he won put him ahead of Charles Leclerc in the driver’s championship.

McLaren has become the quicker car on tracks as Norris is piloting making him a constant threat for Max Verstappen. Currently, the gap between the Briton and Leclerc is just 2 points, something that can change in the next race. However, Ferrari will have to come back in full force if they plan on competing for the driver’s championship.
