In the past, when Lewis Hamilton was winning everything that was there to win, he was vocal about a lot of things but F1 cars. However, since 2022, and especially this year, the 38-year-old has been very vocal about his and his rivals cars. But the one comparison always being made is that between Hamilton and Max Verstappen, and by extension, Mercedes and Red Bull. While the Brit is focused on getting his W14 back to winning ways, in his spare time, he did have a minute or two to make a bold claim about Red Bull’s RB19.

As quoted by RacingNews356.com, Hamilton claimed, “When we were fast, we weren’t that fast. That’s the fastest car I’ve seen [RB19], especially compared to the rest. I don’t know why or how but he [Verstappen] came past me with serious speed.” But is the 7x champion accurate? Or the past couple of years have forced him to talk in hyperbole?

According to the folks over at the Late Braking F1 podcast, Hamilton may have jumped the gun! While discussing the dominance claims made by the Brit, the hosts jokingly said, “2014 was the most dominant car of all time, because Lewis Hamilton got 50 points in one race!” while referring to the ridiculous one-off double points race at Abu Dhabi in 2014.

However, while touching upon Hamilton’s comments, they acknowledged, “If anyone is going to make this comment, its got to be Lewis Hamilton. He’s sat in some of the most dominant cars in Formula 1.”

“There was a stat that came out over the race weekend that; over some of the midfield cars, when DRS was activated, the Red Bull car had 20 KPH more top speed than other cars going down the track.”

Just imagine Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen being strapped into equally dominant machinery. Though this may be the most tantalizing prospect for F1 fans, Red Bull boss Christian Horner is having none of that.

He was quoted by PlanetF1.com as saying, “What Lewis has achieved in Formula 1 is second to none but we’re very happy with the drivers that we have. They’re committed as a pair for not only this season but next season as well, so I can’t see where we would be able to accommodate Lewis.”
