Despite 3 stop-starts to the race, Max Verstappen won the Australian GP with quite an aplomb. However, it did not start as smoothly for him as he would have wanted it to. George Russell in P2 overtook him before Turn 1 at lights out. Soon it was Lewis Hamilton (started P3) who got ahead of him in Turn 3. However, this time around, the overtake was not as clean as per the defending champion. He alleged that Hamilton pushed him off the track. Some feel it is hypocritical of him to say that given how he has often been the aggressor against the Briton.
Fans did not take well to Max’s whining on the radio, either, and reminded him of the times when he did exactly the same to other drivers. The Dutchman, however, did not stop with just complaining on the radio, though. After the race as well, he continued with the narrative that he was wrongly pushed wide.

Folks at Late Braking F1 Podcast did not take well to it either. Co-host Sam in a recent episode said, “Talk about being a hypocrite. It’s like he’s writing a book, ‘hypocrisy 101’. I’m all for a bit of elbows out racing as long as you’re running in the confines of the track. And I must admit, on that corner as well, not to sound like we’re Lewis Hamilton fanboys in this scenario, but even though he did squeeze a bit, there’s plenty of run-off.”
“There’s a whole bit off astroturf and curb which you can run your car on properly and Verstappen’s wheels never even touched gravel nor grass. They were fully on track or on surface that you can drive on that drivers regularly do when taking those corners anyway.”
Soon after the first race restart, Max easily overtook Lewis with the DRS assistance. He kept that lead for the rest of the race and finished as the winner.

Soon after the race, the podium holders, Max, Lewis, and Fernando Alonso (P3) appeared for a post-race press conference. Hamilton appeared happy with the P2 finish, dubbing it a “very unexpected” result. When asked about the Lap 1, Turn 3 incident with Verstappen, he stood his ground.
As per Planet F1, he said, “I thought it was pretty decent. I mean, he braked early and I braked late and I was fully up the inside and I think we both left space for each other. I didn’t run him off the road and he didn’t turn in on me so we didn’t touch and that’s racing.”
