Fernando Alonso is amongst the most brutally outspoken drivers on the grid and hardly ever minces his words. Apart from the criticism, the two-time world champion also appreciates a driver when he feels the need to. The start-stop-start-safety car race had plenty of incidents and drama and change in order. However, the order that lasted the longest was Verstappen-Hamilton-Alonso. The Spaniard was following Hamilton for most of the race and was constantly applying pressure. Although Alonso couldn’t keep up with his old foe, who he had been meeting on the track more often now, which acts as a matter of celebration for the fans.
However, it wasn’t for the lack of trying, as Alonso confessed in his post-race comments. “Matching the pace of Mercedes was not easy (…) I tried to force a mistake from Lewis to get close but he drove fantastically well, as the champion he is, and no mistakes. I only remember one lock up in Turn 13, in 58 laps,” said Alonso.

These comments, however, are in stark contrast to Alonso’s comments about Hamilton days ago, making him a hypocrite.

The Spaniard decided to weigh in on Hamilton’s comments about the flying RB19. After Verstappen passed Hamilton in Jeddah during the race, the Brit confessed it was the fastest car he has ever encountered.

Speaking to L’Equipe Alonso said, “I don’t agree at all. Last week [in Saudi Arabia] I finished 20 seconds behind Checo and Max [Verstappen]. He and [Nico] Rosberg were a minute ahead in 2014 and 2015… He has a short memory, he’s getting old!”
