Max Verstappen wishes to sit comfortably behind Leclerc
In the beginning, from what it looked like, Ferrari had control in their hands. They were leading, and couldn’t have asked for more when rival Mercedes and Red Bull struggled. One without pace and one without reliability, none of the two teams posed a threat to the Reds. However, as the season progressed, the Austrian unit bought its first changes in Imola. As history was witnessed, Max Verstappen ran away with two consecutive wins after Red Bull’s upgrades.
Ferrari, on the other hand, now faces the challenge of catching up to Red Bull. Rumored to be bringing in the first updates in Spain, they might pose a threat to Verstappen. However, the Dutchman is fairly comfortable with his position and said, “I like the position I’m in at the moment, knowing that the car is quick.”

He further added: “And for example, at the end of last year, I was the one who was being hunted. And that was actually not a great position because I knew that we didn’t have the pace anymore. I knew it was going to be very tricky to the end.”

Last year surely witnessed one of the biggest rivalries in the history of F1. Lewis Hamilton and Verstappen were fighting tooth and nail, even resulting in 2 horrific crashes. With the different sly digs, the title fight became spiteful even off the grid. Although, this time around, with Mercedes caged because of the average pace, Verstappen has mostly seen Hamilton-less victories.
Leclerc, however, even as a debutant title contender, remained calm. Describing his position, he sounded comfortable too. “I just want to be the most competitive out there. And at the moment, it seems that Red Bull has the upper hand in the races.”
