“The Way Could Have Been a Bit Different”- Sebastian Vettel Reflects on His Surprise Ferrari Exit

There was finally some light at the end of the tunnel for Sebastian Vettel as he finished P5 during the qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix. It has been a tough few months for the 4-time world champion.

He was shockingly dumped, at short notice, by Ferrari for the 2021 season and has only managed one point from the first two races in 2020.

The decision to tell Vettel that his services weren’t required anymore could not have been an easy call for Mattia Binotto to make. However, it would have been worse for Vettel as he was on the receiving end of the disappointing news.

The German driver was interviewed by Sky Sports ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix. Speaking about how the news struck him, he said, “Well I generally move on. (But since) you have asked the question, a decision is a decision.

“I’m a professional in that regard and I have to take any decision. But obviously, you know, the way could have been maybe a bit different. But it is what it is.”

However, he did thank the Ferrari team as they put in a lot of hard work to design the cars. He stated, “I feel that this is a big team and big brand. A lot of people have given so much and invested their time, their passion in the cars.

“And I drove one of the cars in the last years. So whatever might be my feeling about it, I owe them respect and give them everything I can. We’re trying to have the best season that we can despite the difficult situation.”

Like the man himself said, Ferrari have to do their best despite the difficult situation. There is definitely some improvement that was seen during qualifying in Hungary, but it is up to both drivers, Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc, to make it work.
