This weekend, Formula One is making a stop in Hungary for the next race of the 2020 season. In the build-up to the weekend, there have been numerous rumors surrounding Sebastian Vettel and his future. Ever since he parted ways with Scuderia Ferrari, many have wondered what the next step in his career will be.

A number of doors have slammed shut following his split from Ferrari. However, there are still a couple of lifelines for the 4-time world champion.

One of them is the Racing Point Formula One team, soon to be renamed as the Aston Martin Racing team. Before Vettel can step in, either Lance Stroll or Sergio Perez need to make way to accommodate the German.

The Vettel-to-Racing Point rumors have gained a lot of momentum in the last few days. Therefore, the Racing Point duo was asked to address the rumors in a press conference.

According to the Canadian, he expects to keep his seat at Racing Point for 2021 and beyond.

In the pre-race press conference, Lance Stroll said that he was “determined to stay” at Racing Point when asked if he was willing to step aside for Sebastian Vettel.

Meanwhile, Sergio Perez acknowledged the rumors and noted that in F1 nobody is sure of their seat until the race begins. He even revealed that an F1 team got in touch with him to gauge his availability.

What does this mean for Sebastian Vettel?

While nothing is set in stone, the rumors are getting stronger and stronger. In all honesty, it would be a real shame if a driver of Perez’s caliber was unable to find a seat in Formula One.

At the same time, it would be quite unsettling if a four-time world champion was left without a drive for the next season.

It just goes to show that F1 as a sport is often cruel. At the end of last year, Nico Hulkenberg bowed out of the sport, with many drivers feeling sad about his departure.

A year before that, Esteban Ocon took a year away from F1, but the good news is that he is back. For older drivers like Hulkenberg though, a return to F1 could be difficult.
