Among all the top contenders in the midfield, we often notice a singular white and blue car cruising away in P6. Pierre Gasly has had a remarkable first half of the season. Despite labeling Silverstone as the “worst weekend this season”, having just missed the points; Gasly proudly claims this year to be his best start. In an interview with Will Buxton, Gasly analyzed his performance in the AlphaTauri and had a lot to say.

Gasly looked back at the last 10 races of the season. “It’s the best start of the year I’ve had in formula one and also for this team.” He praises the Honda-driven car saying, “In these 10 races we’ve scared a podium in Baku with the third place, we’ve had quite a lot of Q3s.

“So I think we are in a good shape fighting for the fifth position in the championship, which is also something the team has never achieved. It’s really exciting times for us.”

With outstanding performance comes competition. The Frenchman then named a few competitors to the Alpha Tauri, “Very tight battle with Aston [Martin] and Alpine.

“And sometimes when we get everything right, we even managed to battle with the Ferrari and McLaren on some occasions.”

While Gasly has had a run of frustrating races recently, it’s hard to disregard his stellar racing in the previous races. But is he a rival to the P3 giants?

Pierre Gasly- Finishing the first half on a high?

The flying Frenchman is determined to leave Budapest a happy man. After a disappointing few races, he claims he needs a good race at the Hungaroring.

“I really want to finish the first part of the year, which has been successful so far, in the best way possible. In the last three races, a lot of things out of our control took points away from us and we scored only two points.”

The Lap 1 collision with Charles in Austria resulted in the AlphaTauri retiring to the pits. The following week at Silverstone, Gasly was racing within points as a puncture during the last laps, forced him to pit again- losing his position.

Gasly also wants to have a good race for his team. “It’s important for us to finish on a good note and try to increase a bit, that gap with Aston Martin.” Pierre, a skilled driver, had been the number one man at the second Red Bull team.

He has been more consistent this season, which has led to him being a potential catch on the driver’s market. Maybe then he could compete better with the likes of Ferrari and McLaren.
