Unfortunately, the phenomenal Q3 streak of Valtteri Bottas came to an end at the Australian Qualifying. The Finnish driver was among the very few F1 drivers who consecutively reached Q3 over 100 times.

Bottas had phenomenal stats in qualifying. He never got knocked out before Q3 throughout his time in Mercedes. And Finn thought to continue this streak even with his new team, Alfa Romeo. He has a 102 consecutive Q3 streak, which is the third-highest in f1 history after the likes of Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost. Senna had 137, while Prost had 109 consecutive Q3 qualifyings.

He wanted a 103 Q3 streak, but his plans fell through. The Q2 knock-out must have been disappointing for the Finn as he wanted to continue his streak. Bottas reported ahead of the Qualifying, “I am pretty happy about where we are and I think I have a realistic chance to keep my Q3 streak going – I don’t want to give up on that! That’s our goal, if we set the car upright tonight, we should be fighting for a place in the top ten.”

How has the 2022 season been so far for Valtteri Bottas?

The Finn International is undoubtedly one of the best drivers. He was one of the key figures in the success of the Silver Arrows, helping them win five out of the eight world constructors’ championships. However, the Finnish driver always fell a little short against his seven-time world champion teammate Lewis Hamilton.

After five years at the Brackley base, Bottas joined Alfa Romeo. He replaced the retired Kimi Raikkonen and was leading the Italian F1 team. Further, he took on a mentor role for his F1 rookie teammate Zhou Guanyu. Meanwhile, George Russell replaced Valtteri Bottas in the Brackley-based team.

The Finn has showcased an impressive performance and speed since the season opener in Bahrain. However, the Melbourne qualifying was disappointing for the Finnish driver. At the moment, Valtteri Bottas stands ninth on the driver’s standing and teammate Guanyu is at P14. Further, Alfa Romeo is in sixth place on the constructors’ table with 9 points. The Finn might help the Italian team much higher this season.
