Charles Leclerc, the Monégasque racing star competing for Scuderia Ferrari, started his career in 2005, with a win in the karting championship. And since then, he hasn’t looked back as he went on to win several championships, including Formula 2 in his rookie year, 2017, until his eventual entry into Formula 1 in 2018. Having made his Formula 1 debut in 2018 with Sauber, he became one of the sport’s rising stars. Then later, he joined Ferrari in 2019 and won his first race, finishing the season as the second-youngest polesitter in the history of the sport.
Leclerc’s rookie year wasn’t the best of all. At Sauber, he arguably had a below-average car, which he was only able to push as high as P6 during the Azerbaijan GP. But his performances certainly impressed everyone at Ferrari since it bagged him a seat at Maranello after he registered ten point finishes compared to his teammate Marcus Ericsson’s 6. Later, he was also handed the largest contract that the team has offered to date to any of its drivers.

But credit where credit is due, Sauber recognized Leclerc’s talent early on. Surprisingly, there was one more thing that the team helped the Monegasque with. And it was improving his English. Yes, according to Motorsportweek, it was at Sauber where he conversed and improved in English.
Due to this, the number of languages he can speak is three: French, Italian, and English, with an understanding of Spanish. They also report that while at Ferrari he converses in Italian, with his compatriots in French, and at Sauber he talked in English, making him trilingual.

We have heard him screaming in agony in Italian after the races, interviewing in French, conversing in English over the radio, but most candidly talking in Spanish with his teammate Carlos Sainz. Of course, with Sainz as his teammate for another two years as per their contracts, he’ll surely add Spanish to his resume under the “languages spoken” section.
Charles Leclerc’s nationality and background
Charles Leclerc was born in Monte Carlo and holds a Monaco passport by birth. His father, Herve Leclerc, was a Monegasque, and his mother, Pascale, became one by marriage.
Born in one of the most luxurious cities in the world, his family background was modest, unlike many of the other drivers on the grid. Despite being surrounded by wealth and opulence, his family was not as financially well-off as some of the other drivers in the sport.
Charles received some financial support from his extended family, although they too were not particularly wealthy. According to Onestopracing, he said, “[My] grandfather had quite a big plastic industry… My parents aren’t’ particularly rich, my grandparents were a little bit, so they were helping us pay for the hotels.”
Despite this, Charles disagrees with Lewis Hamilton’s claim that Formula One is “a billionaire boys’ club” and admits that programs such as the Ferrari Academy were instrumental in identifying his talent and helping him financially in the pursuit of his racing ambitions.
He started racing karts at a young age and quickly made a name for himself in various junior categories as he competed fairly regularly against now-known names such as Nyck de Vries, George Russell, and Max Verstappen. Despite his family’s modest financial background, Charles was able to progress through the ranks of motorsports.
Before his Formula One debut, Charles competed in several lower-tier categories, such as Formula 2 and the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. He won several races and was widely regarded as one of the best up-and-coming talents in motorsports.

Thanks to his ability and skill, he’s the “hot shot” on the grid, with several teams eyeing him. Many believe that if Lewis Hamilton retires soon, possibly at the end of the next year, a drivers’ silly season will be triggered since Mercedes would be eager to get him alongside George Russell. The possibility of this happening also makes Leclerc’s contract renewal a high priority, despite it lasting until the end of the 2024 season.
Not denying anything about the speculations, he was quoted by the GP Blog as saying, “There is still a long way to go until 2024 and some more time left as a soldier in the ranks of Ferrari. Being in this team has been my dream since I was a kid. My goal for now is to win with Ferrari. After that, we’ll see. What I take away from this year is that we are competitive again and fighting for wins. The first three or four races were very good.”
