Ferrari have made a roaring start to the 2022 season. The Italian team is currently leading both constructors’ and drivers’ world championships after 3 races in the season. But they are not overjoyed with their initial success and have their feet completely on the ground, as mentioned by their team principal, Mattia Binotto.

“We first want to understand this car and make the most of its potential,” said Mattia. The Italian team is one of the few on the grid to not have brought any significant updates in the first 3 races of the season.
Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto is cautious despite initial 2022 success
The F1 teams have a lot to manage in the 2022 season, other than extracting the most out of their cars. This season, the teams have to work under a budget cap and plan their upgrades accordingly throughout the season. So this is the reason Binotto wants to understand the full potential of the car before developing it any further.
Ferrari race operations chief Claudio Albertini also pointed out the importance of a budget cap this season. “The budget cap has an impact on how we operate this year. When there is a development, it is very important that the new component is good, otherwise, you waste money and time.”

“The strategy of not changing the package much but focusing on understanding it better led us to an improvement, while bringing in new components was not useful due to the spending cap. It was a bit of a gamble,” said Albertini.

It is indeed an interesting approach for the rest of the season from the Italian team. But it is also a warning sign for the rest of the grid that Ferrari is blitzing the field, without any major upgrades.
So it is a scary thought for other teams that if the planned upgrades work on the SF-75, then the Reds might be miles ahead of their competition. But we have to wait and see what are the upgrades that the team is planning for the European leg of the season. The Italian team is definitely in it to win it in the 2022 season.
