2013 was a difficult year for F1 as that was the last time the world heard from Michael Schumacher. His accident while going off-piste skiing that year put him into a coma, after which he has never been seen. His life has been in a critical condition ever since and fans still pray for his recovery. While Schumacher is recovering, his family decides to put his watches out for auction, which were sold for 4 million Swiss francs. However, that is not the most shocking news about the 7-time world champion.
After news broke out that Schumacher’s watches had been sold, another of his possessions was going up for sale. It’s safe to say that Schumacher had an eye for fine machinery. Be it micro machines like intricately created watches or the pinnacle car of the moment, the F1 car. His first car when he drove in F1 was the Jordan 191 chassis number six. Eddie Jordan’s instinct put Schumacher in that car the first time, and now, the car has surfaced for sale.

Schumacher’s debut in 1991 at Spa-Francorchamps was nothing short of jaw-dropping. It is the same car that has shown up for sale, again. Over the years, the car has been sold by a few lucky owners who could call the piece of history theirs for a short time. Now the car is up for sale once again, it is being handled by DK Engineering in Hertfordshire, UK. To find out how much someone can bag the car for, an inquiry form must be filled out. As the vehicle is an important part of history, it will come quite steep, possibly at around €1.5 million.
After the 1991 season, the car was acquired by Speedmaster Cars. James Hanson, the boss of Speedmaster Cars, facilitated the sale of the car and organized a short documentary with Sky Sports F1, featuring Schumacher’s son Mick driving the car. The next time we heard about the car was when it was purchased again in 2023 for €1,495,000 ($1.63 million). It is reported that the owner has kept the car at Speedmaster Cars’ premises, except for its public appearance for Mick Schumacher’s drive at Silverstone. While the car’s sales do not benefit Schumacher anymore, his watch collection does.

Two of the most notable timepieces from the lot were Schumacher’s custom-made FP Journe Vagabondage, which sold for $1.64 million. This watch was custom-made as a gift from the team principal at the time, Jean Todt. However, the timepiece that fetched the highest price at the auction was the Vintage Pink Gold Patek Philippe, which was sold for $2.71 million. Other watches included timepieces from brands like Rolex and Audemars Piguet, with a custom Royal Oak as a part of the collection.
While fans have been waiting for any news on the F1 legend, his family has decided to let go of his possessions. The F1 community is now hopeful for the day they get to see the German world champion again. With that said, would you ever collect a piece of F1 history, like, a Schumacher watch or car?
