‘The king of streets’ failed to deliver on the streets of Monaco! After losing a prime opportunity to lead the championship ahead of his teammate Max Verstappen in Miami, Sergio Perez suffered another blow to his title hopes in the Monaco GP qualifying. As Perez was setting out on another flying lap in Q1, he pushed too hard and slammed into the barrier at turn 1. Bringing out the red flags, that impact forced him out of the qualifying. So now, Perez will face an “impossible” task on Sunday.

This is Monaco! So, unlike other tracks, what happens in qualifying matters, given how notoriously difficult it is to overtake in the narrow corners of Monte Carlo. However, in the most important qualifying of the year, Perez failed despite his street prowess. So he’ll be starting Sunday’s main race from the very bottom of the grid, while his teammate will start from the pole. Can Perez match his teammate’s stint in Miami and win the Monaco Grand Prix? Well, the Mexican himself says it’s an “impossible” task.

Speaking about Perez’s crash, Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko said, as quoted by F1Maximaal, “If you have such a good car, you can’t fly out in Q1”. He also believed that Perez pushed the limit so early in the session and said: “That was a stupid mistake on his part. Perhaps he was thinking too much about the championship.” [translated via Google]

Can Max Verstappen win the Monaco GP to keep the winning streak alive?

Perhaps Max Verstappen drove one of his best laps in the Monaco Grand Prix qualifying. Although it was an extremely challenging qualifying session, the Dutchman came into contact with the wall several times but did not damage his RB19 like his teammate. So, in the end, the reigning world champion dug deep with absolute electric speed to take pole position from Fernando Alonso. And in Monaco, chances are, if you start ahead, you might as well end up ahead.

However, several drivers from different teams proved to be very evenly matched, especially Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso. Although Verstappen broke Aston Martin’s hearts and took pole position away from Alonso, the Spaniard’s pace looked promising. He missed the pole by less than a tenth of a second. As we all know, Alonso has been eyeing a chance to end Red Bull’s winning streak for a long time now, and what better place than Monaco to do that?

But for now, it looks like everything is going Max Verstappen’s way.
