It was a pleasant surprise for fans when Daniel Ricciardo finally tested the RB19 at Silverstone. And a bigger surprise was seeing Sebastian Vettel in the Red Bull garage. And not only present, but he also served as a water boy to an unsuspecting Ricciardo. But what Vettel probably didn’t know at that time was that the test would translate into Nyck de Vries losing his seat. Now that he sees the treatment the rookie received, he has extended his support to the heartbroken de Vries.

Ricciardo was sitting seriously in the RB19 in the garage when Vettel came up to him with a glass of water and a writing pad. The Australian racer’s eyes lit up as he saw his old teammate again. F1 uploaded a short reel that captured this heartwarming moment between the 2 drivers. But in a different garage, was de Vries, probably with the opposite emotion. When the news of the coup at AlphaTauri came out, Vettel felt shattered for the Dutch rookie.

Vettel told ITV, as quoted by Formule1.nl,  “I hope he hasn’t suffered a dent in his confidence. It’s cruel and extremely unfortunate for Nyck. I think Nyck got a great opportunity. Things didn’t turn out the way he expected and other people expected, but it’s just as hard when it suddenly stops.”

On one hand, he felt very sad for de Vries. But on the other, his ex-teammate and good friend has gotten another opportunity to revive his F1 career.

Sebastian Vettel Is Overjoyed as Daniel Ricciardo Gets a Fresh Chance At Redemption

Daniel Ricciardo and Sebastian Vettel were teammates at Redd Bull in 2014. And the kind of happy personalities that they have, they formed a bond for life. As one can derive from the Water Boy interaction, they are still good friends. So, when the 4-time champion got the news of the Honey Badger getting an AlphaTauri seat, he shared his joy with the media.

“I’m very happy for Daniel,” said Vettel. “I like him.” He definitely likes him. Even during the 2022 season, Vettel didn’t hesitate from slamming McLaren for letting Ricciardo down. He said he didn’t know much about the situation, but he was sure about one thing – the Woking outfit had failed him.
