The 2022 season is moving to Saudi Arabia for the second race of the season. And as the season continues, the competition on track as well as off-track is also getting heated. That’s right! We are talking about the rivalry between none other than the 2 F1 Team bosses, Toto Wolff and Christian Horner. Fans saw the best, or worst, of their rivalry as Red Bull seemed to be at par with Mercedes last season.

Mercedes has been dominating Formula One for the past few years. But the total domination of the Silver Arrows came to an end last season at the hands of Red Bull. The Austrian constructor won the driver’s title with their ace Max Verstappen last season. But the fight between the two team principals isn’t just limited to the track. They can be seen throwing harsh words at each other during interviews as well.

In a recent interview, the Red Bull boss took a shot at the Mercedes Team Principal. Horner said, “When I’m not on the track, I’m in the factory. I don’t live like a tax evader in Monaco who runs his team from a distance.” Through his comments, the Red Bull Team Principal wanted to showcase the difference between him and Wolff.

However, these kinds of verbal fights have been going on between the two team principals over the past few years. Hence, the Mercedes boss didn’t give an ear to Horner’s taunts as he is currently more focused on the betterment of his team. However, Wolff did reply to Horner’s ‘tax evader’ taunt by saying, “His statements no longer trigger any emotions in me because it shoots in all directions.”

Toto Wolff doesn’t agree with Mercedes engineer

The German constructors managed to get a podium in the first race. But both the Silver Arrow drivers were struggling with the W13 throughout the race. Now, the Brackley base is currently working on the car to improve it for future races. Mercedes trackside engineering director stated that they are learning a lot about the car and it will have upgrades for the Jeddah race this Sunday.

Andrew Shovlin stated, “I think we’ll get some easy gains, there’s some low-hanging fruit and what we’re hoping is that we can get those in the next race or two.”

But the Mercedes team principal doesn’t agree with Shovlin’s comments. Wolff believes they are still far away from the winning ways and he claims that the Brackley base still hasn’t figured out the solution for the struggling W13.

Wolff said, “The sooner we recognise this, the faster we will be. This is physics – and not mysticism. One issue that is definitely on our minds is speed on the long straights. But I don’t expect any enlightening insights from the second race in Saudi Arabia.”
