Recently it notched up another big win for itself at the Sports Emmy Awards. The show won the Outstanding Documentary Series- serialized for its depiction of the pinnacle of motorsports last season.

Although the latest season of the show got heavily criticized for overdramatizing the rivalries and situations, it created a bigger impact than it set out to do when it was first released on the platform. It is also amazing to see that it is getting recognition from the award shows as well.
How had Drive To Survive impacted F1 since 2019?
The first season of the show got great interest from the audiences in the United States of America. But it was the pandemic that really put the spotlight onto the series and the sport, as many found DTS to be an interesting documentary.
The show has changed the perceptions of not only the loyal fans of the sport but also several team principals, including Toto Wolff, who was hesitant to appear in the first season.

“It showed me a new angle to attract a new audience, different to how I perceive F1. This is why I decided to join and be part of Netflix in 2019. They understand the environment and are well integrated. Obviously, you know that they are around. But nobody’s trying to act like a Hollywood actor,” said the Mercedes team principal.

Despite the recent criticism of the show from several F1 personnel, the show has been renewed for 2 more seasons. Everyone in the sport understands the importance and the impact of the show on the modern landscape of Formula One.
It is bringing in a younger viewership, that never watched a single race of Formula One, to not miss a single one. With further changes announced by the sport for the show to keep it fresh, we can only expect bigger and better things in the future.
