The drama at Red Bull and its sister team continues regarding Nyck de Vries’ seat. Having already given the Dutchman an ultimatum to improve his performance within the next three races, Helmut Marko is now back with more news. Daniel Ricciardo was first linked to the seat, but then the rumors were quickly cleared as other candidates for the seat have been revealed. 

Helmut Marko revealed that the team has talked to de Vries, and he agrees about increasing his performance. With the performance gap to Yuki Tsunoda being a big one, Makro has given the Dutchman a stern warning. The Red Bull taskmaster also revealed how Ricciardo is out of the picture. The team will turn to the junior drivers in case they have to replace Liam Lawson and Ayumu Iwasa will be the most likely. 

According to F1-Insider, Helmut Marko said, “We talked to de Vries and he is of the same opinion as us: he has to increase. The distance to teammate Yuki Tsunoda, who does a great job, is too great. To use the footballer’s language: Nick got the yellow card, but not the red one yet. If it increases, a change of driver will not be an issue. In case of cases, we would fall back on our junior pool. It’s specifically about Liam Lawson and Ayumu Iwasa. Ricciardo is not an issue.”
