Former F1 driver Marc Surer believes Lewis Hamilton will retire in the near future. According to Surer, Hamilton is likely to walk away from F1 for good after clinching another World Championship. The Swiss driver expects Hamilton to pursue his interests in fashion and invest greater time in climate change.

Will Lewis Hamilton “throw in the towel”?

With 84 victories and 6 World Championship, Hamilton has cemented his legacy his Formula 1 as one of the all-time greats. He’s a guaranteed Hall of Famer in the sport and will probably go down as one of the most influential personalities in motorsports. Truth be told, Hamilton doesn’t have a lot left to achieve in the sport.

Had the 2020 season gone ahead, as usual, Lewis would probably be inching towards Michael Schumacher’s all-time win record in F1. With the sport carrying over regulations, there’s a good chance of Hamilton matching and surpassing Schumacher’s 7 World Championships. Hamilton has revealed on multiple occasions that he’s hungrier than ever but even the most tenacious tire out after a while.

Lewis Hamilton is currently 35 years old and is definitely entering the final phase of his F1 career. There’s no guarantee that he’ll stop or slow down in the near future but his interests could change. The 6 times World Champion declared before winter testing that he would be “on another level” in 2020. Unfortunately, we haven’t witnessed his machine-like form due to COVID-19 playing spoilsport.

Surer thinks Hamilton will retire once he gets to title number 7. Speaking to Sport1, Marc said:

I have the impression that he will throw in the towel and will stop if he wins the next title. He’s been just too much lately about the appearance and the whole environment of Formula 1. That’s why I got this impression”

It’s no secret that Hamilton is quite vocal about climate change. The Brit often urges people to be environmentally conscious and do everything to reduce one’s carbon footprint. He’s also an avid supporter of animal rights and takes to social media to call out acts of cruelty against wildlife. Furthermore, the Briton has a vested interest in the fashion industry.

It’s impossible to predict Hamilton’s future in the current scenario. He could end up doing a Rosberg or a Kimi depending on how feels about the sport down the line.
