After the Canadian GP weekend concluded, McLaren started redesigning their car for Austria. But their rookie driver, Oscar Piastri has been on a nice break, traveling and meeting people all around the world. From meeting Andy Murray and Carlos Alcaraz to batting in the nets with the Australian cricket team at the iconic Lord’s cricket ground, he is making the most of his time. And he’s even been a guest on ‘The Fellas’ Podcast, where he spoke about his “wild plans” for the Las Vegas GP.
Piastri was the guest in the most recent episode of ‘The Fellas’ podcast on the 27th of June. The hosts, ‘Calfreezy’ and ‘Chip’, spoke with the Australian driver about a wide variety of things. He elaborated on his journey to F1, the worst thing about F1, and leaked driver WhatsApp group chats. What stood out was his view on the Las Vegas GP, where F1 has invested a mighty $240 million.

Piastri said, “I think it’ll be a crazy weekend.” This response drew laughter and excitement from Calfreezy, and Chip said, “He’s thinking about the afterparty already.” Piastri continued, saying, “So that’s going to be wild. I don’t know how wild the race will be. I’ve seen a little bit of how the track looks and there’s some big straights as well but the atmosphere and just the event itself is going to be wild.”

McLaren has had a terrible 2023 season so far. Even after showing signs of increased pace as the season progresses, their drivers have conceded positions and lost points. Now, the hopes of the entire team rest on the big upgrade package for Austria. Speaking about the same, Piastri feels the team has taken a step in the right direction.
Piastri said, as quoted by Autoauction, “We’re looking forward to the upgrades…hopefully, they’re quicker. That’s the plan, of course. I think at the moment, on our good days, we’re probably at the top of the midfield… we need to get out of that midfield and start being able to focus on the top four teams. So yeah, looking forward to that.”
