Races during Grand Prix weekends, be it qualifying or the main race, are quite hectic for drivers as well their race engineers. Therefore, it is understandable when there is a slip of the tongue, and get each other’s name wrong. Well, that’s been going on at McLaren this season, where Daniel Ricciardo has, repeatedly, been called Daren, the team’s strategist.

And in line with his tongue-in-cheek personality, Daniel opted to clear the confusion regarding the name mixup, albeit in his own funny way!

In the build-up to the British Grand Prix this Sunday at Silverstone, the 32-year-old wanted to clear the confusion about the names, so that there isn’t any mishap during the course of the race.

So, he took to Instagram to post a picture with Daren Stanley. The Aussie also clarified both of their names, but it looks like he’s confused too!

The McLaren driver wrote, “Daren on the right.. wait. Even I’m confused now. Anyways, here is the legend that is Daren.”

The Woking-based squad responded to the Instagram post saying, “Two legends right here.”

The Daniel-Darren saga occurred at the Styrian Grand Prix

As Ricciardo was zipping around the Red Bull Ring at the Styrian Grand Prix, he was called into the pits. Funnily enough, in the heat of the moment, his race engineer got confused between the F1 strategist with the seven-time Grand Prix winner.

He said, “Box Daren… Daniel Box,” Ricciardo responded, “Box confirmed.”

But it didn’t end there, as his race engineer got confused again said, “Daren pit lane.”

However, the race did end in disappointment, as Daniel crossed the line in thirteenth place and failed to bag any points for the papaya team.
