In recent years, Daniel Ricciardo and podium wagers seem to have gone hand-in-hand. During his time at Renault (now Alpine), the Australian placed a bet with former team principal Cyril Abiteboul where the latter would get a tattoo should he achieve a podium finish.

While he achieved that target last year, Abiteboul is yet to follow up. However, according to Ricciardo, a tentative date is close. In fact, the Honey Badger believes his current team principal, Zak Brown might have nudged the Frenchman in this direction. He also believed the Red Bull bosses could join in on the fun.

Although Red Bull are well in his professional past, Ricciardo won several podiums with the Austrian outfit. Hence, he thinks Christian Horner and Dr. Helmut Marko should join his tattoo bandwagon sometime in the future.

“I need to revisit Christian [Horner] and Helmut [Marko] to see if they’re interested as well, just go through the whole paddock,” joked Ricciardo. “What do you think of Helmut with a face tat? Do you think he could pull it off?”

Ricciardo believes Cyril Abiteboul will follow Zak Brown

Despite a difficult start to life at McLaren, Ricciardo enjoyed a dream race in Monza. He claimed ended the British outfit’s 170-race winless streak with a stunning performance in the Temple of Speed. In the process, he also won a bet with Brown where he would drive his racing hero, Dale Earnhardt’s 1984 NASCAR in Austin this past weekend.

That same weekend, Brown also got fresh ink on his left arm depicting the Monza circuit to mark Ricciardo’s stunning victory.

Initially, Ricciardo expressed disappointment for being in the dark about Brown’s tattoo idea. However, he later admitted Abiteboul will honor their bet, with a date likely to be between the Qatar and Saudi Arabian GPs.

He said, “Now Cyril is provisionally locked in. We’ve booked him in and it’s between Qatar and Saudi [Arabia] and unless something changes with schedules, it’s going to happen. We’ve been in touch recently.

“He’s very keen and I think after Zak getting it, he will be even more keen to make it happen. It’s happening. I’ll give him another nudge but he’s pretty keen for it.”

While Ricciardo looks to achieve more success on track, there’s no doubt his wagers have put a few team principals in a tough spot. Whether he convinces his former bosses at Red Bull to follow suit, only time will tell.
