Helmut Marko has been called out multiple times for being delusional. The Red Bull taskmaster was recently called out when he tried to take credit for advising Niki Lauda about Lewis Hamilton’s availability. However, Daniel Ricciardo’s Masterstroke is now dragged through the mud as Helmut Marko was called out for being in denial. But what is it exactly that Helmut Marko is being called out about?
Daniel Ricciardo returned to F1 a couple of races back when Red Bull and AlphaTauri decided to sack Nyck De Vries. The Dutchman was previously given a warning to improve on his form but nobody saw this move. AlphaTauri’s 2023 performance is nothing to write home about as they continue to struggle with the backmarkers.
Many believe that Daniel Ricciardo’s experience will help the team achieve the desired results. However, The Race F1 Podcast suggested that it’s not only down to the driver but also the machine that AlphaTauri has turned up with. Helmut Marko and Co. have been in denial of AT04’s bad pace. The hosts explain that both Yuki Tsunoda and Nyck De Vries were achieving the result that they could with the car provided to them as they advised that both of them were good drivers.

Further highlighting AlphaTauri’s mistakes and the host said on Daniel Ricciardo’s comeback, “I am not sure there’s a magic bullet in Ricciardo coming back. But we’ll have to wait and see. He’s obviously done a pretty good job in these 2 races, at least the first one. But I think the team needs to look at themselves a lot and say ‘Look, we’ve got it wrong”
Despite Daniel Ricciardo’s performing well in his first couple of races back, the host dragged his performances through the mud to focus on Helmut Marko’s denial of AT04’s underperformance. AlphaTauri has been struggling in all aspects with their car, unlike Williams who only struggles with the downforce and is an absolute rocketship in the straight line. A huge upgrade was brought to the AT04 recently but it didn’t seem to make a huge difference.

AlphaTauri brought a huge revision to the AT04 for the British GP. The upgrades included a new engine cover and floor among other things. It is believed that more than half of the car was new. Still, it was a disappointment as Yuki Tsunoda suggested that he doesn’t feel much of a difference.
According to Motorsport.com, Yuki Tsunoda said “So far, we can’t see the results that we are improving massively. So far, it’s not looking good. The result is no good so far. We feel definitely a couple of gains in some places but some places we didn’t improve that we expected. So, we have to look through it deeply.”
