Helmut Marko has already sacked Nyck de Vries this season. Red Bull has a history of sacking drivers who don’t perform up to the mark. With Sergio Perez’s recent struggles, the Mexican’s dreams were shot down to give him a reality check just days after he was issued a Helmut Marko warning. How was his dream shot down and what is he being asked to do?

Prior to the Hungarian GP, Sergio Perez was facing a sort of slump in performance. Earlier this week former Red Bull engineer Daniel Drury suggested that Sergio Perez would need to do something special and pick up his downward trajectory performance otherwise Helmut Marko will kick him out of the team and he won’t have the second Red Bull seat for the upcoming season.

While Sergio Perez did improve on his previous performances compared to the kind of performances that he’s been showcasing lately, Peter Windsor suggests that Sergio Perez needs to learn how to drive from Max Verstappen if wants any chance of getting closer to his teammate. Nevertheless, he added that Sergio Perez will never fully become like Max Verstappen.

According to Peter Windsor’s YouTube video, he said “It’s not the question of confidence with Perez. Fundamentals he needs to develop… redevelop the way he drives the car. Along the lines of Max. He’ll never be a Max but he can start to get into that spectrum if you like.”

Nonetheless, Checo did perform well in the race at the Hungarian GP, but still misses that edge that Verstappen has about himself. Let’s see how Checo did at this weekend’s Hungarian GP.

Sergio Perez’s comeback at the Hungarian GP

After what was a disappointing 5 race run since Miami in which Sergio Perez failed to get into Q3 in all 5 races, the Mexican made it to the final stage of qualifying in Hungary. However, he only managed P9 in Q3. Checo started the race on the hardest compound of tires and went long into the first stint, followed by Medium tire stints.

The Mexican made up places throughout the race and finished on the podium. Toward the end of the race, Perez even threatened Lando Norris for P2 but then fell off the pace and finished P3 successfully managing to keep Lewis Hamilton behind. Checo was awarded as the driver of the day for his heroic drive from P9 to the podium.
