Just like the true nature of the sport, life also comes at you fast in this unforgiving world of F1. The mighty Lewis Hamilton fell in 2021 after being on top for almost seven years. However, after being dethroned, life in F1 has not been kind to the Brit, mainly due to the shoddy piece of machinery we have come to know as the Mercedes challengers of the past two seasons. In fact, the past two seasons have been so humbling that Hamilton has started appreciating every little win in life. Although it did start from a health scare back in 2020.

It is no secret Mercedes has been sub-standard at best compared to their previous levels in the sport since the 2022 regulatory changes. However, as the team of engineers chase the light at the end of the tunnel, Hamilton has learned a few lessons himself. After missing out on his first race due to COVID-19 back in 2020, Hamilton started appreciating his life a little more, which he revealed in his exclusive with Blick.

Speaking about the first pole position in Hungary after what must’ve felt like a lifetime, Hamilton was ecstatic. “Yes, that was a highlight. You try to be grateful for everything that successfully crosses your path when you go through such hard times,” said Hamilton. (Translated via Google)

When asked if this mentality translates into life off track as well, he added, “Yes, for example, I lost my sense of taste for a month during Covid times. And when he came back, wow, you’re just happy and grateful. But that’s just nature.”

Such small incidents in life always make you appreciate the simple things in life. This is exactly why Hamilton is counting every step in the direction, every bit of progress as a win.

With this mentality, the pole position in the Hungarian GP was a momentous occasion for him. In fact, looking at things from a new perspective, Hamilton, in the same interview, revealed how he is working toward the biggest goal of his career, and it’s not the eighth championship title.

However, life since the 2021 season has been different. Now forget wins, front row starts, and pole positions come once in a blue moon. Hamilton has accepted this difficult phase of his career and is ready to do everything he can to start winning again. However, whenever it comes, this win won’t be taken lightly or just be the 104th win of his career. Hamilton will know that is the day his dreams are reborn and he will celebrate it as such. If you have any doubts, just listen to his comments.

The interviewer pointed out it has been 38 races without a win for the Brit. In fact, his last win came in the 2021 Saudi Arabian GP. The interviewer then said, “A long time for a man with 103 record successes.” To this, Hamilton replied, “We’ll be coming back. We can do it. The next step to the top podium will come. And it will probably be my greatest triumph in my career.”
