In all the drama surrounding McLaren, Alpine, and Oscar Piastri, Daniel Ricciardo was the unlucky party. The Australian mutually terminated his McLaren contract and will be out of a seat in 2023 unless someone signs him. However, despite Daniel’s recent struggles, he remembers when his former Red Bull teammate gave him one of the best advice in F1.

The night is darkest just before dawn and that is precisely what Daniel Ricciardo might be feeling at present. The talented McLaren driver was tipped to be the next big thing. However, he now finds himself without a seat for next year.

Meanwhile, Daniel looks back at the time when he received his best F1 lesson from 4-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel. He remembers how the German was an assertive figure, but not in an arrogant way.

When asked about which teammate he learned the best lesson from, Daniel said, “Maybe Vettel. Just his work ethic and… He was hard, he was firm but not an asshole. With the team like if they did something wrong if he needed a change… He would be very hard but not in an asshole way.”

Daniel Ricciardo went on to beat his teammate Sebastian Vettel in his debut Red Bull season, which comes as a shock because Vettel was the then World Champion.

Ricciardo has 8 race wins in F1 with his latest win coming last year in Monza. He won the Italian GP with his teammate Lando Norris coming home in 2nd place. It was McLaren’s first race win in more than 9 years.

Sebastian Vettel claims McLaren couldn’t get the best out of Daniel Ricciardo 

Former Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel came to his former teammate’s defense as he claims Ricciardo got failed by McLaren. The German empathized with the Australian driver and claimed he is still one of the best drivers on the grid.

The Aston Martin driver said, “Maybe I have too much empathy for a Formula 1 driver but I was very saddened hearing what’s going to happen to Daniel, I think it’s a very, very difficult situation to be in.”

He continued, “I think, in this regard and I don’t know the details, but I guess McLaren failed to extract the potential that he has. It’s sad to see that he’s been put in a difficult position, but I wish him all the best.”

The German hopes Ricciardo will eventually find a team. He concluded, “I’m sure that, ultimately, the talent he has and the qualities he has will shine through.”
