The Azerbaijan Grand Prix is underway as teams are on board with their qualifying sessions. The Q1 session saw both the Williams drivers knocked out once again, but Alex Albon was in particular unhappy with Fernando Alonso.

While Alonso safely qualified for Q2, Albon was left scrambling in the end and blamed the Spaniard for his exit. Lance Stroll’s crash in turn 2 meant the red flag was waved with 2 and a half minutes to go. As the traffic increased, the Williams driver was on setting a lap time when Alonso locked up and went straight in the turn 15.

A visibly frustrating incident for Albon meant that he was out of Q1 as he complained on the radio. He said, “He needs to get penalised, this guy. He has to. This is ridiculous. He was doing it the whole lap, he was driving slowly on purpose. It was so obvious how he went off the track, it was ridiculous. he braked so early and just went off the circuit.”

Things are not going right for Williams. A poor result in Monaco followed by a Q1 elimination does not bode well for their ambitions. However, the track in Baku is known to be chaotic and the results have been unpredictable over the years. So, Albon will hope for a positive result despite starting from P17 on Sunday.

Albon has scored points in Australia and Miami. But, the car is struggling to match their competitors. They remain at the bottom of the table and will hope Sunday can be a positive race.

The former Red Bull driver also believes that the car is balanced. After Friday’s FP2 session, he said, “To be honest with you it’s a bit tricky for us as the car feels actually very good, feels one of the better-balanced cars we’ve had during the year so to be far off the pace is a little bit confusing.
