George Russell is currently second in the driver’s championship behind Charles Leclerc. The British driver has impressed everyone with his performances in the first three races of the 2022 season. He has been consistent in terms of results and managed to score his first Mercedes podium in Australia last weekend.

With his P3 in Melbourne, he became only the third driver to secure podiums for both Williams and Mercedes. The other two are interestingly his predecessors in the German team, Nico Rosberg and Valtteri Bottas.

But many have mentioned that Russell is a better driver than both Bottas and Rosberg. And this is due to the fact that Russell has scored his first two podiums in F1 with inferior cars.

On the other hand, when Bottas was at the podium with Mercedes and Williams, he generally had the car to challenge for those positions. Rosberg might have had the best equipment with Williams, but he certainly got most of his podiums in a dominant Mercedes. So, do you think George has already surpassed Valtteri and Nico?

Russell certainly has the drive to prove himself, as he recently mentioned that he has no interest in finishing P5 or being the best of the rest.

The British driver joined the world champions Mercedes at the start of this season. But he has not gotten a world championship-winning car on his arrival. He revealed that despite being second in the championship; he has no interest in fighting for P5.

“These small things in the scheme of things don’t mean a lot really. Obviously, everybody wants to finish ahead of their team-mate, but Lewis and I have no interest in battling it out for P5, P6,” said Russell.

“We want to work together to claw that gap back. So, there’s no hard feelings if he’s ahead of me, there’s no hard feelings if I’m ahead of him, and we’re not too concerned about that at the moment,” said the Mercedes driver.

It is interesting to hear his comments even after finishing on the podium. The Brit is not satisfied. But there might be some time for him and Mercedes to mount a challenge this season against the front runners. So, all Russell can do right now is to be consistent and score as many points as possible.
