Harsh Reality Check for Charles Leclerc as Max Verstappen Once Again Picks up Ferrari F1 Spoils

The 2022 season has been somewhat of a rollercoaster ride for Charles Leclerc. The Monegasque had dominated proceedings in the opening stages of the season and managed to open up a decent lead at the top of the standings. However, the last few races have seen him lose his lead and his spot in the driver standings.

The last race in Baku saw Leclerc run into further problems as a power unit issue forced him to retire. To make matters worse, Verstappen went on to take the checkered flag in P1, with Sergio Perez coming home second. This sees Verstappen increase his lead atop the drivers’ standings to 34 points over Leclerc. Sergio Perez also overtakes Leclerc moving into P2.

This weekend in Azerbaijan added another unwanted stat to Leclerc’s name. The mind-boggling stat reads that Max Verstappen has managed to take away more wins from Charles Leclerc’s pole positions than Leclerc himself.

Converting from the pole a problem for Charles?

Charles Leclerc has had the upper hand when it has come to qualifying this season. He has managed six pole positions in eight rounds so far. However, the problem arises when it has come to convert the pole position into victories. He has only managed to win two times from the pole, in Bahrain and Australia.

Leclerc let another golden chance slip, due to no fault of his own, in Baku after taking pole. This meant that Max Verstappen has now managed more wins from Leclerc poles than the Monegasque himself.

The fans are all astounded by this stat as well and had some funny reactions.

To further put things into context, Charles has more pole positions (15) than Max (14). However, the latter has 25 wins to Leclerc’s 4. This stat is something that he will not be proud of and will be hoping to change as soon as possible.
