The world of Formula 1 is still coming to grips with the shock exit of Guenther Steiner. The rockstar of F1 became an extremely popular and loved figure around the paddock thanks to his superhit appearance on Netflix’s Drive to Survive. However, perhaps the Italian-American would not mind a break from the sport’s hustle and live a quiet life with his family before an offer comes knocking. In fact, he gave an insight into his humble life back in the US and we can’t help but feel he would enjoy a break.

The ex-Haas boss used some of his recently freed-up time to amuse himself with YouTuber content creator Mat Armstrong. Armstrong rebuilds and modifies cars and showcases them on his page. He recently rebuilt a wrecked McLaren 720s and the ex-F1 team boss was there to inspect it. Toward the end of the video, Steiner’s conversation with Armstrong revealed his humble outlook towards life.

When asked if he owns a supercar, he instantly replied, “No”. When asked what car he drives, Steiner sheepishly replied, “Should I tell you? A Toyota Thunder.” He further added, “Toyota Thunder is a pickup truck” and repeated, “I live in the States.”

He further defended his choice of daily drive because “I live there so little so I don’t need… and I love it.” before hilariously admitting, My living room back in Italy was smaller than the Toyota Thunder, you know.”

Upon further questioning, he admitted, “I owned a Porsche but that was a long time ago, 18 years ago. Since then no supercars anymore. Cannot afford them.”

Being on the road for so long and away from your family can make anyone homesick. This is the case with Steiner as well as he recently admitted. The Italian living in America will go back and spend some long overdue quality time with his family after the unexpected break from work. However, despite being without a job, while draining the sponsorship money from Haas, Steiner will have a difficult job at home as well.

“Right now, I want to rest a little. It has been ten very hard years and I have a lot of things to do. There is a lot to sort out at home. I want to spend a good time with my family, my daughter is 14 years old and she asks me for a lot of things. Trying to manage that seems even more difficult than leading a Formula 1 team, so I will be at it for several months,he said.
