One of the biggest benefactors from the show Drive to Survive’s intrusive nature are the team bosses. Among those, arguably the most famous is the Haas F1 team’s boss Guenther Steiner. The Italian-American is known for his x-rated outbursts which the fans have come to love. However, these outbursts are also the reason the unlikely and hugely popular figure in F1 had to defend his personality.

The 57-year-old Haas chief is heading into his tenth season as the boss in 2023. DTS has often captured Steiner being temperamental on many occasions. In fact, the Haas boss’s phrase “we look like a bunch of w*nkers” went viral and even made it onto t-shirts. The team boss recently spoke to GP Racing and talked about the same antics.

When asked if he says the word ‘F*ck’ a lot, Steiner said, “I don’t know why I say ‘f*ck’ that often. It comes out automatically. I think I’ve got something in my brain, some sort of instability, that that word always comes out.”

Despite blaming his excessive cursing for mental instability, the Haas boss defended his personality. “I am who I am, and I don’t want to change. Why should I. Whatever I do in life? I want to say real to me. I don’t need to change. But my personality – no, I don’t want to change. I was always a little bit like this: I do what I like to do, and they I like to do it,” he said.

Steiner has no regrets about his nature, even though he blames it on his mental “instability”. Although, he also uses it to his advantage.

The Haas boss uses the competition’s perspective of the team to his advantage

The Haas F1 team is arguably one of the weakest teams on the grid in terms of financial strength. The team finished the 2021 season dead last in the constructor’s championship without scoring a single point. However, the boss uses this weak perception of his team and turns it into his advantage.

“Sometimes it’s better if everyone thinks you’re an idiot. Because when they underestimate you, you can do your job better,” he said.

There are a lot of stereotypes around the team. However, Haas’s 8th-place finish above AlphaTauri and Williams in 2022 is a show of the team’s continued effort and slight growth.
