Ever since Drive to Survive took off, Guenther Steiner has become an F1 legend among fans. The former Haas team principal has started working with RTL as a German commentator since he was dropped from the team. This means F1 does not need to miss the Italian figure, as he is often found around the paddocks or behind the mic during races. Although Steiner is not a team principal anymore, he is still getting backlash for his words.

Steiner frequently shares his sharp critiques about the F1 season, often targeting his former team and specific drivers. Haas drivers from his time include Kevin Magnussen, Nico Hulkenberg, Nikita Mazepin, and the son of the legend, Michael Schumacher. While the young Schumacher briefly made his way into Formula 1, he did not show the promise that the 7-time champion did and this is something Steiner has been vocal about. This led to the former Haas driver’s uncle stepping in to defend him.

It’s safe to say that Steiner and Haas did not part on a good note. After almost a decade of serving for the team, Steiner was replaced by Ayao Komatsu and this left a bitter taste in the Italian’s mouth. It all started on the Red Flags Podcast when Steiner was invited to talk about the Monaco race. However, to get his frustration out, the former team principal has been talking about Haas in a not-so-friendly manner.

This included some comments about Mick Schumacher as the driver and Steiner did not get along too well. When Ralf Schumacher heard about the comments, he defended his nephew, and according to Formulapassion, Timo Glock chimed in. While talking to Sky Deutschland, Glock asked the question, “What can be said about Gunther Steiner?” Answer his own question he explained, “It is always a little difficult to understand the way in which he chooses to communicate.”

Joining Schumacher’s defense, Glock continued, “He should stop attacking him all the time – the former Jordan and Toyota driver added regarding Steiner’s criticism of Mick Schumacher – what’s the point? Maybe he should think about his mistakes.” Dismissing the statements from Steiner, he explained, “if you look at Gunther Steiner’s CV as a team leader, you have doubts. Because at the moment the Haas team is doing a great job without him. ”

Although Glock made the latest statement on the case, here is what Ralf Schumacher’s response was to Guenther Steiner’s comments.

Ralf Schumacher’s response to Gueinther Steiner

Replying to Steiner’s comments on Mick’s career, Ralf Schumacher stated, “Guenther is just salty, that Haas is doing better without Guenther.” Uncle Schumacher was there to defend his nephew who has not had a great time in F1. Haas is doing decent this season with 7 points putting them on P7 in the constructors’ championship.

This was not the case during the later years when Steiner had the team under him. The best finish Haas has had so far is P5 back in 2018, but ever since then, they have never even attained a P7 or better. Gene Haas decided that Steiner’s management is not taking the team ahead and while the Italian blames the drivers, Schumacher puts the responsibility on the former team principal.
