Mick Schumacher is part of the prestigious Ferrari driver academy and is tipped drive for Scuderia in the future, just like his father Michael did. However, as of now, the young German driver finds himself at Haas. And if he ever decides to leave Team Principal, Guenther Steiner knows his course of action.

The Austrian boss will still have a Ferrari driver in his team if Schumacher parts with Haas in 2022. However, Steiner is hoping that day doesn’t come and believes that Mick will stay put for next season as well.

The rookie German driver won the F2 championship last year and is making his debut in F1 with the American team. It hasn’t been a full season yet, and talks of the 22-year-old leaving the team are already making the rounds. However, Steiner is hoping Mick will stick with team for the upcoming season.

In a column for The Race, Steiner said, “I’m as confident as I can be that Mick will be with us next year. Mick is contracted to Ferrari, and we will be having a Ferrari driver. If it’s not Mick, fine, they have a few other good ones.

“It would be ideal if Mick stays on and I’m pretty sure that that is what will happen,” the Haas boss concluded.

What are the options that Steiner has if Mick leaves?

If the German driver decides to part ways with Haas, Steiner has a few options that he can pick up from the F2 championship. Drivers such as Callum Illot, Robert Shwartzman, and Marcus Armstrong are all top candidates to get a seat at the Steiner-lead team next season.

Illott is the official test driver for Ferrari and could make his F1 debut with Haas. Meanwhile, the Scuderia junior drivers, Shwartzman and Armstrong are competing in F2.

While the Russian driver is in third place in the standings with 91 points to his name, New Zealand’s Armstrong finds himself in fourteenth place with just 24 points. Regardless, both drivers have the potential and could replace Mick and form a partnership with Nikita Mazepin.
