Lewis Hamilton was one of the biggest breakout stars in last week’s Belgian GP. This win has taken his number of Grand Prix victories to a whopping 105, but reaching here has not been easy for the Briton. After going through a slump for almost 2.5 years, he managed to break his losing streak at Silverstone this year. Ever since then, he has become a regular contender for the podium places. This has raised hopes in the minds of several Hamilton fans about him winning an eighth World Championship title.
Hamilton’s name will go down in F1 history as one of the greatest racers of his era. Thanks to his record-setting 7 World titles, he is currently in the same ranks as the German legend Michael Schumacher in terms of Championship wins. But ever since 2020, he has not been able to get his hands on a single-season victory, leading to speculations that he has lost his “mojo” and will never return to the top of the Drivers’ points table again. But the new form of Lewis Hamilton where he won 4 podium places in the last 5 Grands Prix shows the veteran might still be in the run for a World Championship.
As a Team Principal in Formula 1 since 2016, Guenther Steiner has witnessed Lewis’ Championship-winning form for 4 years. So, he is a good candidate to answer the question of whether the Briton’s new results show hope of a possible eighth World Championship win. Speaking on this, Steiner told the ‘Red Flags Podcast’ hosts, “I think [yes] if he continues to drive like this. I mean, he’s pretty good and the Mercedes was the best car there, you know?”

Currently, the 2024 season is having its summer break and once the teams return to Zandvoort, there will be 11 more rounds of racing. So, Guenther Steiner predicted, “I think the second half of the season will be very interesting because I think McLaren is continuing to make mistakes. And Mercedes is just getting better and better, race by race.” However, Steiner shared some concerns about Lewis Hamilton’s winning “psychology” that might raise your eyebrows.

Guenther Steiner speaks on Lewis Hamilton accepting defeat
Even at 39, Lewis Hamilton has established himself as a Championship contender at an age when most racers retire from Formula 1. This shows the tenacity of the Mercedes racer which should make it possible for him to clinch his eighth title. However, when some interviewers had asked him whether he had any Championship hopes right now, he had said, “No“. And this has gotten Guenther Steiner concerned over his psychology.
Thus, when the Red Flags Podcast hosts brought up the question of a winning mindset, Guenther Steiner said, “Lewis said no. So, he’s out [of the race now]. Psychologically.” The hosts also said that Lando Norris is out of the race “psychologically” even though the McLaren man has just 78 points left to bridge the gap between Max Verstappen and himself.
