It’s been just months since F1 had a merry-go-round of Team Principals in late 2022. With the rate at which several team bosses switched teams, every team may have had a new boss this season. Although, several folks like Toto Wolff & Christian Horner have stood with their outfits to become some of the longest-serving team bosses. Surprisingly, Guenther Steiner stands 4th on this list now. Steiner’s bonding with his Haas squad is so much that he even denied a switch to a big team like Ferrari!

Guenther has always been outspoken on several aspects. Be it his team’s performance, macro F1 issues, or his career choices. In an interview with the German website Bild, the Haas boss made it clear how there is no chance of him making a team switch. He said, “I am very happy at Haas and have no ambitions to go anywhere else. I want to finish my job here, so I’m not even thinking about it at the moment.”

Steiner has been the team boss at Haas since 2016. Despite achieving a mixed bag of results, the Italian’s rapport with the American team has been exemplary. Besides his Italian heritage may be a perfect fit for Ferrari if ever this hypothetical switch happens. However, given Guenther has worked for more than 2 decades in F1, he also has reasons to retire soon.

The 58-year-old said, “Never have I ever made a five-year plan. My long-term goal is to eventually quit. I’m not the youngest anymore either.” Certainly, this may be a bombshell update if Steiner decides to leave F1 anytime soon. Although, one may want to appreciate his clarity of thought in blatantly denying a big jump to Scuderia Ferrari.

Regardless of when he retires, Guenther Steiner definitely would like to achieve some memorable moments for Haas before that time comes. Given Haas have been an erratic force in F1 swinging from the back to the midfield constantly, this may not be easy. Yet, Steiner knows how they got a surprise pole in 2022, a podium or a win may not be impossible.

Guenther Steiner Hoping for a Haas Victory in F1

It may sound absurd but Haas boss Guenther Steiner is optimistic that the American outfit can pull off a miracle. Given how we have seen teams like AlphaTauri, Racing Point & Alpine pull off wins in chaotic circumstances, one cannot underestimate Haas. Though, does Steiner have a plan or is it just an air of optimism?

In conversation with the F1 Nation podcast, Guenther expressed these tall ambitions. He stated how this year they are aiming to move up the championship standings in the midfield. Following this hope for progress, his big statement came, “And at some stage, we want to be winning races. I don’t know how far away it is and I’m not going to say it’s this season or next season, but at some stage, it will happen with Haas.”

Steiner’s hope may seem a little far-fetched right now & precisely so. Haas is fighting for scraping through 1 or 2 points each race. So, it may not make sense that they suddenly hope to be in a podium finish situation. Still, Guenther & Co. somehow pulled off an unexpected pole position in Brazil last season. So never say no to a chaotic miracle for the underdog team that Haas is!

Fingers crossed that Guenther Steiner gets that elusive podium or win for Haas before he decides to call it quits. He may not be the boss of a big outfit, but the Italian’s personality has been one of the most entertaining, beating several of his peers. What do you think can Guenther & Haas pull off a miracle anytime in the future?
