As much as the 2022 Brazilian Grand Prix will be remembered by Mercedes fans for the only glory they achieved that season, it was exactly the opposite for Red Bull. Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez who usually shares a good work relationship showed the world an entirely contrasting picture and of course, that was anything but great for Red Bull’s public image as a whole. However, it is believed that it all started when Perez had a “greedy” crash in the 2022 Monaco Grand Prix, which ultimately led Verstappen to ruin his dream to finish P2 in the world championship in Brazil.
Perez crashed his RB-18 during his final qualifying run at the Principality. The crash immediately brought a red flag as the session ended prematurely. This left Verstappen in P4 who was also in his last qualifying run. Unable to improve his time, the Dutchman returned to the garage frustrated.

Calling the move a greedy one, Christian Horner told Netflix, “I think he got too greedy. He made a mistake. You know this is gonna be a tough one tomorrow.” He went on, “It’s a shame because I think both of the drivers could’ve actually improved a little. Max, certainly was, you know, significantly up. Disappointing not to get one on the front row.”

The crash left the two Red Bulls behind the two Ferraris for Sunday’s race. Nevertheless, it was the Austrian team that picked up the win and two podiums with Perez coming out as the winner after Ferrari misjudged the strategy. Despite finishing in P3, the result wasn’t enough for Verstappen to forget what happened in the Principality and come at Perez in Brazil later that season.
Sergio Perez’s action left Max Verstappen annoyed in Monaco
As the qualification concluded in the 2022 Monaco Grand Prix, a visibly frustrated Max Verstappen got inside the Red Bull garage at the paddock. The Dutchman ignored a smiling Helmut Marko and left frustrated after being denied a chance to improve.

Later, the Dutch driver shared with Netflix about this, “It was not a great moment for the team. There was definitely a chance for second, but of course, there was a red flag with Checo having a moment. Once somebody hits the barrier, that’s it you know. It is annoying but what can you do?”
Perez however, was equally unhappy about the outcome. He told, “Qualifying didn’t go according to plan. Yeah, Really sad. It’s a frustrating situation. I have to be better. The team, it’s very down. Things are not great. No, it’s horrible, it’s a horrible feeling.”

All in all, it is not sure if this event sparked the Brazil GP incident between the Red Bull teammates, but Max Verstappen certainly had a grudge in mind as he let it all out on the radio during the Sau Paulo race against Sergio Perez and hence denying him the chance to take his shot against Charles Leclerc in the championship.
